Pet Blood Bank: Could your dog be a life

Fair city vets are now a venue for Pet Blood bank and their first session will be Sunday 16^th July, 10am – 4pm.

Pet blood bank (PBB) exists to help save the lives of pets in need. PBB is a UK charity which was set up to support vets by providing a blood service for pets, just like the one we have as humans. They run donation sessions across the country where owners bring their much-loved companions to give blood. The blood is then taken to our processing centre in Loughborough, where it is separated into different products. It is then stored and sent out to vets when they need it. 

What happens on the day?

On the day, your dog will get plenty of treats and will then be examined by a vet. They will take a small blood sample to check your pet is healthy to donate. You will then be moved to the next room, where your dog will be lifted onto a table and laid down on a mattress and reassured by PBB staff members. The phlebotomist would then take the donation, which will take between 4 and 10 minutes. A bandage is then placed around the neck and your pet is then given a goody bag and a picture is taken to then post on our social media to celebrate the occasion.
